The USO of South Texas was established in April, 1941
in the former Kennedy Home at Broadway and Lipan Streets in Corpus
Christi to assist the men and women serving in World War II. Since that
time, the USO has been located in several different sites around Corpus
Christi, but is now permanently located aboard the Naval Air Station.
On November 6, 1993 the USO of South Texas, Inc. held the grand opening
of its new facility aboard Naval Station Ingleside. The "John G. and
Marie Stella Kenedy USO Memorial Center" is a beautiful 11,500 sq. ft.
facility which features a beautifully furnished library, cyber cafe,
movie theater, large game room, snack bar, TV viewing rooms, and four
private telephone booths.
The mission of the USO centers is to provide that
"Home Away From Home" environment for the military personnel and their
families.
The USO is a civilian, charitable organization
created by Presidential Directive, that is non-federally funded.
Operations are funded by individual contributions, corporate and
foundation gifts, the Combined Federal Campaign, and the United Way of
the Coastal Bend.
You may provide support for Americas' sons and
daughters serving their country far from home, by contributing to USO
programs. You may designate your donation to USO "Always Home Programs"
USO "Building Fund" or USO "Memorial Fund " to provide additional
recreational, religious and social space. Donations to the USO are
tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. |
